Fast Focus: How about a little tweak?

The Electoral College doesn't work as well as it should, but it doesn't need scrapping. It just needs some tweaking. This nation has changed some things over the years and we are incrementally transitioning to a direct democracy. A direct election by popular vote won't work. Democracies never last for long. Only republics will last, providing they continue as a true republic.

If the Electoral College was scrapped and the president elected by popular vote, then the most populous states of California, Oregon, Washington, New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Ohio, etc. would elect the president. Smaller populated states wouldn't even count in the elections.
