Tri-Cities' Social Security office to change hours

The Tri-Cities' Social Security office's hours will change starting Nov. 19 to allow agency employees to finish work without going into overtime that the agency no longer can pay because of federal budget cuts.

The office, at 8131 W. Klamath Court, Suite A, in Kennewick, will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., which is a daily 30-minute reduction.

And starting Jan. 2, the office will close to the public at noon every Wednesday.

This will allow workers to complete face-to-face interviews and process claims work.

On Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving, all Social Security field offices will be closed to the public so employees can focus on reducing workloads.

Many services are available at www.socialsecurity.gov or by calling 800-772-1213. People who are deaf or hard of hearing should call 800-325-0778. Online services also are available in Spanish at www.segurosocial.gov.
