CBC men fall to Edmonds in NWAACC quarterfinals

By the Tri-City HeraldNovember 10, 2012

Once the Columbia Basin College men’s soccer team steps back and looks at the big picture, the Hawks will consider this season a success.

But the pain of falling one game short of the NWAACC semifinals might take a while to shake off.

The Hawks fell 1-0 to Edmonds in an NWAACC quarterfinal match Saturday in Lynwood, as Zak Naylor scored off an assist from Eli Seye in the 60th minute.

CBC finished 12-7-4, it’s best finish since 2010, when the Hawks finished 12-4-4 and reached the semifinals.

The Walla Walla men will play their quarterfinal match at 1 p.m. today against visiting Tacoma.

Scoring—1, E, Zak Naylor (Eli Seye), 60:00. Goalkeepers—CBC, Antonio Gonzalez. E, Andrew Mcdonald.

Everett women 1, Walla Walla 0: The Warriors will not play in the NWAACC women’s championship match for the first time since 2004, losing to Everett in the quarterfinals.

Walla Walla had won three consecutive women’s titles and had been a fixture in the championship match, reaching it seven times in a row.

But Everett’s Kassandra Blakely scored the only goal of the match in the 16th minute off an assist from Lisa Echert, and the Trojans’ defense held off the high-scoring Warriors for the next 74 minutes.

Scoring—1, E, Kassandra Blakely (Lisa Echert), 16:00. Goalkeepers—E, Nicole Alvarez.
