The Kamiakin girls soccer team got a bad break Saturday morning on the way to play its 3A quarterfinal game against Mt. Spokane at Spokane Falls Community College.
Because of a three-inch snowfall the night before, the match originally slated for 1 p.m. was rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Braves didnt find out until they were halfway to Spokane.
But once it was all said and done, it wasnt a long bus trip that did Kamiakin in. It was a solid Mt. Spokane team, which remained undefeated with a 4-0 win to advance to the Final Four in Puyallup.
Alyssa Lloyd scored two goals and added an assist for the Wildcats, and goalkeeper Shannon McReynolds made seven saves for the shutout.
Braves coach Chris Erikson said her team was missing several key players who sat out with injuries, including defenders Lauren McKinney and midfielders Brianna Turley, Parker Lee and Rachel Young.
We didnt play very well, and they played well, Erikson said. We had a great season. It was just a sour way to end it. Unless you win the state championship, you always end with a loss.
