Game Day: Red Deer at Tri-City

November 3, 2012

The Red Deer Rebels are at Toyota Center for their biennial visit. The last time the Rebels were in town, they handed the Americans a 5-3 loss in 2010.

In goal tonight for Red Deer is Bolton Pouliot, cousin to Portland Winterhawks D-man Derrick Pouliot. Pouliot the goalie is 2-3-0-1 this season.

The Americans have Eric Comrie in goal (who else?). Eric picked up his 10th win last night in a 3-2 win over Everett.

Scratched for the Americans tonight are Brodie Clowes (shoulder), Phil Tot (upper body), Ryan Chynoweth (upper body) and Jesse Mychan (lower body). All are on the mend except for Clowes, who noted he will need surgery to fix his shoulder.

For Red Deer, the scratch list includes Jan Bittner, Brandon Underwood (lower body), Kayle Doetzel (jaw), Charles Inglis (flu) and Austin Ferguson.

We are in for a treat tonight, getting to watch Red Deer D Mathew Dumba play. Dumba was a 2012 first-round NHL draft pick (7th overall) of the Minnesota Wild.

We should be grateful that all we have had here is win and rain. Red Deer winger Austin Ferguson said they have 6 inches of snow in Red Deer and it is minus-15 degrees. No thanks.

Notes from around the league:

Vancouver kept wheeling and dealing this week, sending Nathan Burns, 19, to the Saskatoon Blades on Friday. The Blades, this year’s Memorial Cup hosts, are off to a 7-9-0-0 start through Friday’s 3-2 OT road win over the Kootenay Ice. In return, the Giants received center Travis McEvoy, 18, as well as a first-round pick in the 2014 WHL bantam draft and a 2013 third-round choice. The Giants will visit the Americans on Sunday.

The Kamloops Blazers took a big hit Friday after F Dylan Willick broke his ankle in a game against Prince George.

From the desk of Gregg Drinnan in Kamloops: F Ryan Kinasewich (Medicine Hat, Tri-City, 1998-2004) signed a contract for the rest of this season with Milano Rossoblu (Italy, Serie A). He had four goals and seven assists in 14 games with Red Bull Salzburg (Austria, Erste Bank Liga) earlier this season before being released by mutual agreement from Red Bull on Friday.
