Local qualifiers: Richland team (Bradley; Samantha Bagley, jr.; Sidney Bullock, so.; Kinzie Icayan, jr.; Victoria Knudson, so.; Lauren Perry, jr.; Kylee Reynolds, fr.; Jamie Taylor, sr.; Kayla Watson, sr.); Courtney Cox, so., Walla Walla.
Noteworthy: Bumping up from 3A, Camas is the team favorite and Efraimson the individual to beat. Papermakers won very tough District 3/4 meet with just 29 points ahead of second-ranked Tahoma (71) and third-ranked Bellarmine Prep (83). ... Richland is back after missing the last two seasons following a five-year run at state. This year’s squad has the Bombers’ best chance to bring home state hardware since they won it all in 1993. ... Only one East side team (Eisenhower, 2010) has won the 4A title in the last 10 seasons.

Noteworthy: The highight matchup of the day as defending champ Knight and two-time champ Neale (2009, 2010) square off for the final time in state XC. ... After edging Glacier Peak by two points last season, Camas is the favorite to win the 4A title after moving up, and GP the 3A title after finishing first or second the last three seasons. ... Kamiakin is bidding for a third consecutive state trophy after placing fourth the last two seasons. Fletcher is eying a second top-10 finish (seventh in 2010, 11th in 2011).

Noteworthy: Cheney interrupted Sehome’s five-year run as state champs after edging the Mariners by seven points. Sehome and North Kitsap seem headed toward a team battle after both cruised to district wins against stiff competition. ... Pettis and Colyer finished 1-2 last year, 2 seconds apart. Four of the top five finishers are back this season. ... Childers is making her fourth trip to state but for the first time will have a teammate.

Noteworthy: Gone is Meyers, the state’s only four-time champion, meaning the individual title is back up for grabs. Giving chase will be five of the top seven finishers from last season. ... Lakeside finished fourth for three straight seasons before winning last year. The Eagles edged Riverside by two points at district last week. The Rams were runner-ups last year after winning the title in 2010. ... Reisenauer is the first Burbank runner to qualify for state.

Local qualifiers: Victoria Nuñez, jr., Tri-Cities Prep.
Noteworthy: NW Christian scored just 30 points last season in winning their sixth straight title — no other team has won since the Bs split off from the 1A in 2006. ... Speiker won in 2010 and was second to Willson last year. She won her district race last week by 2 minutes, 18 seconds. ... Nuñez placed 16th last season.
