SCAC DISTRICT MEET: The Royal boys and girls won in Cowiche to advance to next weekend’s Class 1A state championships in Pasco, as did Connell’s third-place boys team.
Royal’s Marcus Quiroz finished third in 17 minutes, 7.1 seconds, qualifying for state along with teammates Salvador Horta, Juan Jimenez, Riley Lefler and Nathan Perdue on Thursday. Wahluke’s Ramon Bravo and Connell’s Eric Serna and Robert Orozco also will move on to state after placing in the top 15.
Connell’s Alanta Keskitalo, Royal’s Anahi Gomez, Brea Diaz and Meghan Mianecki, Columbia (Burbank)’s Christina Reisenauer and Wahluke’s Stephanie Juarez advanced to state on the girls side by finishing in the top 10.
Keskitalo finished in 20:53.1 to place second to Zillah’s Alexis Redfield (19:29.2).
