Reel Rock film tour coming to Richland

Published: October 25, 2012

Badger Mountain and its "Friends" have received a nice bit of well-deserved coverage this fall, and Kennewick REI continues to help with efforts to improve those Richland hiking trails as co-sponsor of the upcoming Reel Rock 7 Film Tour.

Heather Bendickson, outreach specialist at the Kennewick REI, reported there are about 100 tickets left for the Nov. 9 showing at the Battelle Auditorium. Cost is $10. Members of Tri-City Court Club or REI pay just $7. Students get in for $5. Proceeds go to The Friends of Badger.

Those who have attended the Banff Film Festival tour stops at Whitman College in Walla Walla will be into this, and the BFF is how I learned of Yosemite free climber Alex Honnold, who seems to be a clone of swimmer Michael Phelps. Honnold is among those featured in the Reel Rock trailer.

The evening at Battelle will include a showing of Cold, the 2011 BFF grand prize winner. The short chronicles the efforts of Cory Richards, the first American climber to summit Pakistan's Gasherbrum II during the winter. National Geographic named Richards among its 2012 Adventurers of the Year.
