Benton City's McClammer named Paralympic prep All-American

June 4, 2012 - Chelsea McClammer of Benton City has been juggling international competitions with local ones her entire career. The Richland High School graduate will be competing in the Paralympic Trials in Indianapolis next month. As a freshman at Kiona-Benton High School, McClammer finished eighth in the woman's 800-meter final at the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Chelsea McClammer, a former Richland High School wheelchair track star, was selected as one of 53 U.S. Paralympics Track and Field High School All-Americans.

McClammer, of Benton City, was an alternate for the 2012 U.S. Paralympic team in London.

In 2008, she placed eighth in the women's 800-meter final at the Beijing Paralympics.

At Richland this spring, she won the 800 at Star Track XXX in Tacoma.

She now attends the University of Illinois, where she plans to compete in track and basketball.
