Volleyball roundup: Chiawana sweeps Hanford

After holding off the Hanford Falcons 30-28 in the first set, the Chiawana Riverhawks went on to beat their Mid-Columbia Conference volleyball rivals on the road 3-0 on Thursday night.

First-place Chiawana found its rhythm with help from Madison Powers, who totaled 15 kills and six blocks.

“She had one error out of 21 swings,” Riverhawks coach Jim Steach said. “She was up and cracking the ball pretty good at all angles.”

Bailee Drussel finished with 25 assists for Hanford, and Nikki Eldred had 14 kills and six blocks.

“Teams have kind of been having their way with us, so it was good to stand up against a really good team,” Falcons coach Carrie Antonovich said.

SOUTHRIDGE 3, PASCO 0: Kimberly Brinkworth had 16 kills, five blocks and seven digs to lead Southridge past Pasco in three setts. Kylie Fraga added 36 assists and seven digs for the Suns.

Sierra Linke had 10 kills and 17 digs, and Marisol Diaz finished with 21 digs and went 8-for-8 serving for the host Bulldogs.

RICHLAND 3, KENNEWICK 0: Alisha Bettinson had nine kills, three blocks and 14 digs; and teammate Macey Weitz added 11 digs, 15 assists and one ace as Richland swept Kennewick in a Mid-Columbia Conference match.

Kelly Dyer finished with 14 digs for the host Lions, and Maddie Zinsli recorded 16 assists.

Kamiakin 3, Walla Walla 0: Jessica Edminster was perfect at the service line, including six aces, in leading Kamiakin to a sweep of Walla Walla on the road in Mid-Columbia action.

Edminster served the first 10 points of the third set, followed by Amanda Miller, who served the next seven points — including four aces.

Miller led the Braves with 11 kills, while Taylor Janicek added six kills.

Savannah Egbert added nine kills, seven digs, two aces and two blocks for the Eagles.

RIVER VIEW 3, KIONA-BENTON 1: Katie Wilhelm went 18-of-21 serving with seven aces, and Sadielee Vasquez finished 17-of-18 from the line with 16 assists to lead the Panthers past the Bears at home in SCAC East play.

Jaky Calzadillas was 11-of-12 serving and had 17 assists for Ki-Be.

Liberty Christian 3, Garfield-Palouse 2: The Patroits rallied from two sets down to beat Garfield-Palouse in Southeast 1B action. LC won the first set 25-23, then lost the next two before tying the match with a 29-27 win in the fourth set. In the final set, the Patriots eked out a 15-13 win.

Ashley Peterson finished with 16 kills for the Patriots, while Sydney Higgins had 13 assists and five service aces.
