3 Kennewick School Board members fined

Three Kennewick School Board members will each have to pay a $100 fine to the state for violating state campaign finance laws during their elections last year.

Brian Brooks, Ron Mabry and Ben Messigner were penalized by the state's Public Disclosure Commission following hearings last week, according to commission documents.

The actual penalty per board member was $200, but half of that was suspended, provided there isn't another campaign finance violation in the next four years and they pay the fine within 30 days.

The three board members accepted a $250 contribution and a $938.98 loan from a political supporter when they sought office in 2011.

The size of those contributions required the candidates to fully report all contributions, but they instead submitted mini campaign finance reports.

State officials said the violations were minor and carried a maximum fine of $500.
