The Richland Bombers will wear the Mukilteo Invitational crown for another year.
On Saturday at Federal Ways King County Aquatic Center, the Bombers outswam Bainbridge 457-448 for the team championship.
Hanford, which shared the 2011 title with Richland, was fifth with 304 points.
Though several of their swimmers left after the 100-yard freestyle to get back in time for homecoming, the Bombers held on for the win.
We left on the bus with 36 and are going home with 18, Richland/Hanford coach Kathy Piper said via telephone. We were a little nervous on the back half, but they swam awesome. We had three meet records.
Two of them were individual marks by Lisa Bratton.
The junior defended her title in the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 4.97 seconds, beating Libertys Makenna Briggs (2:09.05) and Hanfords Lisa Tixier (2:14.31).
I was kind of nervous, Bratton said. It kind of surprised me, but I was ready to go in there and race hard, and thats what I did. Bratton also clocked a state-qualifying time on her way to winning the 100 backstroke in 57.15 seconds.
Teammate Nicole Weinman finished with state-qualifying times when she won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.94 and the 500 free in 5:10.95.
Weinman and Bratton were on the 200 medley relay team that finished a hundredth of a second behind Bainbridge, but they joined Vanessa Whattam and Lauren Hall in qualifying Richlands 200 free relay for state with a meet-record time of 1:41.67.
We wanted to definitely come back and win again, Weinman said. But we had to pay attention to what we were trying to do and not worry about what they were doing and be into the wall on every relay we could.
It also was a banner day for Mid-Columbia divers. Southridges Danielle Freund, a runner-up last year, took the title with 211.35 points. Kamiakins Danielle Brandon (206.45) was second, and teammate Jessica Anderson (182.80) placed fourth.
In the 100 butterfly, reigning champion Stephanie Tixier of Hanford clocked 58.11, second to Marysville-Pilchucks Hannah Taylor (57.30). Richlands Sarah Olsen and Alyssa Musick, and Prossers Hailey Rankin also finished in the top 10.
Sunnysides Cassadie Moore (100 breaststroke) and South-ridges Katelyn McLaughlin (50 free) each recorded state-qualifying times with their runner-up finishes.
