Woman killed in head-on crash near Wallula that

A 36-year-old College Place woman was killed Friday when the car she was in attempted to pass on Highway 12 and hit another car head on, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Ruth E. Garcia, 36, was killed in the 4:30 p.m. collision about 16 miles west of Walla Walla. She was a passenger in the 1997 Toyota Corolla driven by Henry L. Thacker, 38, of Walla Walla. Three others were in the car: Angelique Garcia, 37, Andres Medina-Garcia, 7, and Justino Garcia, 11, all of College Place. The four were taken to area hospitals with unknown conditions.

Thacker's car collided head-on with a 2003 Dodge Intrepid driven by Lynda G. West, 51, of Richland. She was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland with unknown injuries.

WSP reported that unsafe passing caused the crash.
