Swimming and Diving: Southridge's Freund, Kamiakin's Anderson qualify for state

Southridge diver Danielle Freund and the Kamiakin duo of Danielle Brandon and Jessica Anderson qualified for the Class 3A state championships for the second year in a row Thursday.

Freund posted a score of 335.00 at an 11-dive meet at Richland’s Prout Pool, while Brandon hit 317.30 and Anderson finished with 304.95. The state-qualifying 3A standard is 300 points.

Brandon qualified for state two weeks ago with a total of 301.10 at an 11-dive meet in Kennewick.

CWAC dual: Hailey Rankin won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly in state-qualifying times Tuesday to help Prosser defeat Ellensburg 90-76.

Rankin was timed at 2 minutes, 6.36 seconds in the 200 free and 1:02.80 in the 100 fly.

Rankin also was on the winning 400 free relay team with Karlie Lusk, Danielle McKeirnan and Becky Wildman as the Mustangs finished in 4:13.58.

McKeirnan had an individual victory in the 500 free, clocking in at 6:20.63, while Kate Burnett took the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.40.
