Appellation: Yakima Valley
Steve Southard helped Kana Winery in Yakima stand out in the valley for some remarkable work with blends of Rhone varieties. His blend of Grenache (61 percent), Mourvedre (18 percent), Cinsault (12 percent) and Counoise from a young vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills smells of whole-berry cranberry sauce, bubble gum, cloves, toffee, cedar and saddle leather. There's an even flow to the flavors of boysenberry, blueberry and Western serviceberry, bringing tantalizing acidity, minimal tannins and a bit of leafiness in the finish. Rated "Outstanding" by Wine Press Northwest magazine. (14.5 percent alcohol)
Price: $20.

Food matches: Enjoy this with grilled or braised meats, an autumn root vegetable stew or a tomato sauce-based Italian dish.
