A spectacular explosion in the next few weeks will signal the start of the last phase of work on the Northern Pacific Railway's $6 million bridge remodeling project between Pasco and Kennewick. The blast will remove the cylindrical pivot pier that formerly served as a hub for the bridge's old swing span.
