By the Tri-City HeraldOctober 2, 2012

Washington's minimum wage will increase to $9.19 per hour starting Jan. 1.

The 15-cent increase from $9.04 to $9.19 an hour reflects a 1.7 percent increase in the Consumer Price Index, which is used to calculate the state's minimum wage as required by voter-approved Initiative 688.

Washington has the highest minimum wage in the nation.
