Girls soccer: Hanford hands Kamiakin first loss of season

Deanna Quadrel knocked in a cross from Bret Baysinger in the 62nd minute to help Hanford defeat Kamiakin 1-0 on Tuesday. It was the first loss of the season for the Braves.

“Bret got the ball and was running hard on the right side. She sent it over to the left side and (Quadrel) finished at the far post. It was a beautiful goal,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. “They didn’t have many opportunities, but we didn’t do much either.”

Emily Busselman earned the shutout for Hanford in goal, stopping 10 shots.

Chiawana 4, Pasco 1: Lexi Miller scored twice and had an assist to lead the Riverhawks to the home Mid-Columbia Conference victory.

Miller scored in the 68th and 76th minutes, and assisted on Braydey Hodgins’ goal in the 21st minute.

Amanda Dawson and Carrie Nolan each had a save for Pasco in the loss.

Southridge 7, Kennewick 0: Hannah Sanders and Mercedes Haberling scored two goals apiece to lead the Suns over the Lions at Southridge High School.

Michelle Foster chipped in three assists for the Suns.

Richland 4, Walla Walla 0: Samantha Heilman scored two goals and added an assist to lift the Bombers to an MCC home win over the Blue Devils. Kirsten Calmus added a goal and assist for Richland, and Morgan Schumacher picked up her first shutout in goal.

“I don’t think we’ve used our field as much as we could to this point, but we did a lot of the things we’ve been working on in practice today,” Richland coach Sara Elfering said. “I thought our girls worked really hard and kept their goalkeeper pretty busy.”

Eastmont 6, Sunnyside 1: Karlee Goehner scored three goals to lead Eastmont over Sunnyside in a CBBN match that was moved to Sunnyside because of poor air quality in the Wenatchee Valley.

Susana Arreola had the Grizzlies’ lone goal.

Prosser 4, Grandview 2: Rylee Suhadolnik scored in the 72nd minute on a controversial goal that hit the underside of the bar, bounced down and just crossed the line to lead the Mustangs to the CWAC road victory.

Jamie White made four saves in goal for Prosser.

Karissa Trinidad and Oryian Matheny scored for the Greyhounds.
