Mid-Columbia prep football Week 4 blog

By the Tri-City HeraldSeptember 21, 2012

10:54 p.m. - Tri-Cities Prep lost at No. 4-ranked Lind-Ritzville-Sprague 21-20 in OT when the Jaguars' 2-point try failed. Bailey Rivas finished with 117 yards on 27 carries for TCP (2-2 overall).

10:48 p.m. - River View rolled over Warden 43-7. Ruvim Tyutyunnik threw for two TDs and ran in another as he completed 17 of 24 attempts for 170 yards. Alonso Mendoza played both sides of the ball and scored on each, first on an 43-yard INT and later on a 26-yard run. He had 13 carries for 119 yards.

10:33 p.m. - Prosser's 61-0 win over Toppenish focuses on two players -- Ryan Fassler completed 24 of 31 pass attempts for 302 yards and 5 TDs. Danny Raap caught 8 passes for 139 yards and 4 TDs. The Mustangs did carry the ball 17 times for 184 yards and 3 TDs. Next up: Ellensburg at Prosser.

10:30 p.m. - There are multiple reports that Hermiston's game at Lewiston will NOT be rescheduled.

10:23 p.m. - Connell gets back to .500 with its 41-21 win at home vs. Burbank. Kyle Pruett completed 15 of 20 passes for 286 yards and 4 TDs. Justin McBride threw 2 TDs to Christopher Ryckman, the first covered 13 yards for the game's first score.

10:18 p.m. - Holy smokes, Mike Olson threw for 7 TDs, completing 15 of 18 passes en route to 358 yards as Liberty Christian rolled through Touchet 54-14. Tyler Morris was the primary target, 6 catches for 199 yards. John Lesser rushed 18 times for 150 yards. It's remarkable that he didn't make it into the endzone. Instead, Olson scored the only rushing TD -- coming from 1 yard out.

10:13 p.m. - Kiona-Benton dressed just 18 players because of injuries, but the Bears beat Wahluke 22-3 in the SCAC East. The game was played in Benton City because of the smoke in Mattawa. Ki-Be's Anfernee Cortez ripped off an 88-yard TD for the game's first score. He ran one more time before a foot injury sidelined him for the rest of the game.

10:11 p.m. - DeSales defeats Dayton 34-6 in a game that school officials weren't sure was going to be played because of the smoke lingering over the Mid-Columbia. Jeremiah Cox threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns, and Luke Fazzari ran for two scores and 181 yards as DeSales goes to 4-0.

9:56 p.m. Look out for the Papermakers. Camas 53, Lakes of Tacoma 14.

9:40 p.m. - Here's a string of finals. Hanford 20 @ Walla Walla 17 -- Kennewick 18 @ Sunnyside 13 -- Eastmont 34 vs Wenatchee 14 @ Moses Lake -- Kamiakin 20, Southridge 0.

9:22 p.m. - Joe Oertel reports that a pass from Walla Walla's Dakota Turner goes through the hands of Paul Gilmore on 4th down around midfield. "Hanford working on running out the clock."

9:17 p.m. - Pasco's Luis Murillo has 199 yards and 2 TDs on 15 carries to go with 5 tackles on defense, including a sack. Chiawana's lead is 28-13.

9:02 p.m. - Jack Millikin reports, "Chiawana starting to pull away now. Clifton Lozano scores 2nd rush TD of the day on 1-yard plunge to make it 28-7. 4:05 left in 3Q"

9:00 p.m. -- Craig Craker reports, "Kamiakin finally gets its passing going, leading to a Kylle Robertson TD pass to K Perrins. Braves 14, Southridge 0 :43 left 3Q."

8:58 p.m. - Hanford opens the 4Q with a 20-17 lead at Walla Walla.

8:57 p.m. - It's a final. Royal 44, Zillah 7. River View travels to Royal City next Friday.

8:55 p.m. - Kennewick takes a 12-7 lead at Sunnyside into the 4Q.

8:49 p.m. - Clifton Lozano goes up the gut for 3-yard TD run, giving Chiawana 21-7 lead over Pasco with 8:07 left in 3Q.

8:47 p.m. - Joe Oertel in Walla Walla has Hanford's Jalen DeVine with 14 carries and 207 yards. The Falcons now lead 20-17 late in the 3Q after a 7-yard TD run by senior fullback Austin Taylor.

8:45 p.m. -- Interesting tweet from the Prosser Mustangs. They just noted that they've posted their final tweet of the game. Prosser 35, Toppenish 0 to start the 3Q.

8:41 p.m. -- Royal leads visiting Zillah 44-7 in the 4Q. If it was an Atlanta Braves broadcast in during the 1980s, the late Skip Caray would have referred to it as "cocktail hour." Instead, the RoyalHighSports.com team is promoting the soon-to-open Extreme Pita shop at the Kennewick Center Towers development near Costco. One of their buddies must be involved as a franchisee.

8:38 p.m. - Walla Walla emerges from the intermission inspired. Dakota Turner scores on a 15-yard TD run to open the second half as Wa-Hi grabs the 17-13 lead from Hanford.

8:33 p.m. - Some sad news from Walla Walla. Joe Oertel reports that Wa-Hi standout RB Johan Hoe is out for the rest of the game with a shoulder injury. That will make Hanford's job considerably easier.

8:31 p.m. -- Royal's Alex Myrick responds with a 58-yard TD pass. That makes it 44-7 over Zillah. At this point, Royal would need to take a 52-7 lead to engage the running clock.

8:28 p.m. - No running clock is looming this week for Royal. Zillah covers 96 yards on its first drive of the second half. Royal's lead is shaved to 37-7 after the 11-play drive.

8:23 p.m. - Joe Oertel of KTEL 1490 has Hanford's Jalen Deine with 10 carries for 141 yards and 2 TDs at the half.

8:17 p.m. - Chiawana leads Pasco 14-7 at halftime. Hawks with 165 yds offense, Bulldogs have 169.

8:16 p.m. -- Prosser enjoys a 35-0 halftime lead over Toppenish.

8:09 p.m. -- The big game of the night is still Kamiakin 7, Southridge 0. Our own Craig Craker describes it as a "defensive slugfest."

8:05 p.m. -- Mike Noftle of RoyalHighSports.com shared halftime stats. Perhaps the most impressive is Royal limiting Zillah to 39 yards of offense. QB Alex Myrick is quite the dual threat. He's completed 10 of 13 passes for 109 yards. He's done it on the ground, though, with 6 rushes for 88 yards and 3 TDs. Wonder how soon the running clock will start as Royal opens the 3Q with a 37-0 cushion.

8:03 p.m. -- Joe Oertel at KTEL 1490 in Walla Walla has got another fun one to call. Hanford is back on top, leading 13-10 late in the 2Q after DeVine's 31-yard TD run. It's his second TD of the game.

7:58 p.m. - Jack Millikin reports Joey Zamora hits Dre Dorton with 9-yd TD pass, a fade to back corner to put Chiawana up 14-7 with 2:10 left in 1H.

7:56 p.m. -- Prosser led Toppenish 14-0 to start the 2Q.

7:52 p.m. -- Wa-Hi bounces back for a 10-7 lead. Jonah Hoe flings a halfback pass for a TD on 4th and goal at the 6. Hanford's score came on a 75-yard TD from Jalen DeVine.

7:49 p.m. - Royal is running again. The Knights lead Zillah 37 to zilch in the 2Q.

7:42 p.m. -- Walla Walla takes 3-0 lead early in 2Q on a 41-yard Dean Atkinson FG. That's quite a boot for HS.

7:40 p.m. - Chiawana stops Pasco on 4th/goal from the Hawks' 3, then goes 94 yards in 2 plays, capped by a 72-yd TD pass from Zamora to Bell. Chiawana leads 7-0 early 2Q.

7:34 p.m. -- We have second-quarter score, but no one has scored at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla. It's Hanford 0, Wa-Hi 0, thanks to ‏@JoeOertel.

7:32 p.m. - Liberty Christian is for real in the 8-man ranks. The Patriots from Richland defeated the Touchet Indians 54-14. That results adds to the optimism surrounding their problem as it gears up for its first run at the state playoffs.

7:28 p.m. - Kamiakin gets on the board first as Kamiakin's Johnny Jansen returns interception 75 yards for touchdown. Kamiakin 7, Southridge 0, 7:35 left 1Q.
