Richland volleyball rallies past Kennewick in 5 sets

Alisha Bettinson had 23 kills and 13 digs, while teammate Macey Weitz added 22 assists and 15 digs, as Richland rallied past visiting Kennewick 25-13, 19-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-13 in a Mid-Columbia Conference match.

Kelly Dwyer led Kennewick with 20 kills.

“It was a good well-fought match,” Kennewick coach Julie Maciboba said.

The victory ended a two-match losing streak for the Bombers, and helped them move into a tie for third place with Kamiakin.

Chiawana 3, Hanford 0: Led by Shantelle Hill’s 14 kills, nine digs and three aces, the Riverhawks swept a home match.

Elise Simunds’ 14 digs led Hanford.

Southridge 3, Pasco 0: Kimberly Brinkworth had 17 kills, Makenna Behrens racked up 22 digs and Kylie Fraga totaled 38 assists to help the host Suns sweep the Bulldogs in Mid-Columbia Conference action.

Marisol Diaz had 23 digs, and Cameron Estes went 13-for-13 serving for Pasco, which led 23-19 in the final set before Southridge rallied for the win.

“The kids were just working together, taking some bigger swings and just let up at the end,” Pasco coach Kylee Sixkiller-Bossert said. Southridge’s Brinkworth had four kills in a row to help the Suns put away the match.

“She’s having an awesome season,” Southridge coach John Lengphounpraseut said.

Kamiakin 3, Walla Walla 0: The Braves swept a Mid-Columbia Conference road match, led by the stellar serving of Lindsey Schauble.

Schauble, a sophomore, was 17-of-17 serving with four aces. Jessica Edminster added 13-of-14 serving with an ace and 10 assists.

Ellensburg 3, Prosser 1: Rachel Harle had 26 digs, and Taylor Meirndorf finished with 18 assists and 15 digs, but the Mustangs lost to the Bulldogs at home in a nonleague match.

Columbia (Burbank) 3, Royal 1: Viviana Magallon had 16 digs, Nataly Aguilar totaled 15 kills and Jamie Ellis recorded 36 assists to help the Coyotes defeat the Knights at home in SCAC East play.

Connell 3, Warden 1: The Eagles won a battle of unbeatens, knocking off the visiting Cougars.

Courtney Colclasure’s 13-of-13 serving, with nine digs and 58 assists, led Connell, which moved into first place in the SCAC East.

“It was great competition,” Connell coach Kate Johnson said. “It was fun to have some good volleys. The ball was being played on both sides of the net, which was nice.”
