Steve Ewen in Vancouver has been busy this week.
Jordan Martinook had something to yell about Friday: a contract from the Coyotes.
Jordan Martinook signed a contract with the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday, further curtailing the chances of him returning to the Vancouver Giants.
As a 20-year-old, he is eligible to play in the minors this coming season. The Coyotes drafted him in the second round, 58th overall this summer, on the strength of his 40-goal season in 2011-12.
Terms of the contract were not announced, but Martinook said, It worked out good, for my side at least. Im not sure how they feel about it. Im happy.
Other Martinook quotes:
They told me Im not coming back here. Im going to miss Vancouver, but they said they want me in Portland [AHL] or Phoenix, depending on what happens.
I thanked him [Scott Bonner] for everything hes done for me. If he hadnt taken a chance for me when I was an 18-year-old guy, none of this would have happened. Two years ago, I was going to college. This may have been four years away, if at all. I owe a lot to Vancouver. Don [Hay] and the other coaches, I cant say thank you enough.
I think the Giants are going to be fast. Its going to be a quick team. The way that Don is preparing them, thats how theyre going to win games. They changed some things up to become a quicker team and attack teams off the rush.
