The News Tribune of Tacoma put together a preseason coaches poll for high school football.
Local fans will want to note Chiawana ranked seventh in the Class 4A (Richland received some votes), Kamiakin is third in the 3A (Kennewick just missed the top 10), and Prosser and Othello are fifth and eighth in the 2As. In the 1A ranks, defending state champ Connell and Royal are 6-7.
Among the voters: Chiawanas Steve Graff and Prossers Benji Sonnichsen.
The TNT earlier put out a preseason poll by its well-educated writers. A few comparisons.
The No. 1 teams: Skyline (4A), Bellevue (3A), Lynden (2A) and Kings (1A) were the same.
In the 4A: Skyview and Bellarmine Prep flip-flop second and fourth, as do Bothell and Federal Way at five-six.
Kamiakin is sixth in the TNT staff poll, which has Seattle Prep third. Both have ODea second.
Prosser and Othello are four and six in the 2A staff pole (compared to fifth and eighth), and TNT has Royal third and Connell eighth in the 1As.
