GOLF: Martin, LaVoie tie for 17th

Richland’s Tanner Martin (71-74—145) and Kennewick’s Gregg Lavoie (69-76—145) tied for 17th at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier in Lakewood.

Richland’s Scott Kim tied for 26th after shooting a two-round total of 7-over-par 147 at the RMG Club at Oakbrook. Pasco’s Samson Martinez (80-84—164) was 67th.

Bellevue’s Michael Haack (67-67—134), Woodinville’s Jarrett Foote (67-71—138) and Olympia’s Jarred Bossio (71-68—139) earned berths for the U.S. Amateur, which will be played Aug. 13-19 in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

w Senior Oregon Open Invitational: Blaine’s Jeff Coston shot a final round 64 to win the tournament at Wildhorse Resort in Pendleton. Coston birdied the final hole to rally past Lon Hinkle of Eagle Bend Golf Course in Bigfork, Mont.

Coston shot a 202 for the tournament, while Hinkle finished at 203.

Spokane’s Jim Holt was the the low amateur. Tri-City Country Club pro Chris Isaacson, Ed Ochoa, Bill McClendon and Larry Dokie won the team 36-hole competition of one gross-one net team competition, shooting a 123-129—252, to win by a stroke over a group from Portland.
