Kennewick, Wash. — More trash talking: Steve David, driver of the U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto, said earlier this week that the way his boat -- and the way the U-1 Spirit of Qatar -- is running, records could be set.

“It could happen in qualifying or in competition,” said David.

When told that, Erick Ellstrom, the crew chief of the Qatar and whose family owns the boat, just smiled.

“I’m sure he’d like to think that,” said Ellstrom. “It’s always easy to say something like that on paper. It’s important for us to be fast. There is no doubt the Oberto has been faster than ever.

“But we’ve been faster.”
