Mid-Columbia: Junior Flames secure state

July 23, 2012

— Nate Mitchell tossed a one-hitter as the Hanford Flames shut down the Kennewick Phantoms 6-0 on Monday in a Central Washington League junior legion battle for the district’s No. 1 seed to state.

Ryan Colson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and David Juergens also had a pair of hits for the Flames, who were unbeaten at Roy Johnson and open state play Saturday in Anacortes and Burlington.

The Phantoms need to win a playoff against the No. 2 team from the Selah tournament. Richland and Walla Walla played Monday night to decide the top two seeds, but no report was received by press time.

Centralia Sobe and the Yakima Beetles play at noon, with Lakeside Recovery and the Spokane Bandits meeting at 4 p.m.

Sunday’s second-round games are set for 4 and 7 p.m., with a championship decided Wednesday, Aug. 1.
