The Sioux Falls Storm defeated the visiting Tri-Cities Fever 59-32 to win the United Bowl, the Indoor Football League’s championship game, on Saturday night.
The Storm, which went on a 23-0 run to pull away from the Fever, became the first team to go undefeated in the IFL with a 17-0 record.
The Fever fell to 14-3, with all three losses this season to the Storm.
Tri-Cities led 20-10 in the first half, highlighted by Lionell Singleton’s 48-yard interception return for a touchdown.
But the Storm scored 12 points over the final 1 minute, 25 seconds of the first half to take the lead, 22-20, at intermission.
Tri-Cities retook the lead at the beginning of the third quarter when Brady Beeson kicked his third field goal of the game for a 23-22 edge.
But Storm quarterback Chris Dixon responded with a 24-yard touchdown pass to James Terry for a 29-23 lead, and it was the start of a 23-0 run to put the game away.
Dixon finished with 181 yards passing and four touchdown passes.
Fever quarterback Houston Lillard passed for 163 yards and one touchdown. Steven Whitehead caught eight passes for 78 yards, and he also tossed a touchdown pass.
