16-team boys basketball tournament tips off today at Kamiakin

— The Kamiakin boys basketball tournament, featuring 16 teams from the Tri-Cities and eastern Washington as well as Idaho and Oregon, will begin at 11 a.m. today at Kamiakin High School and run through Saturday evening.

The tournament was started by former Braves coach and athletic director Don Schumacher in the early 1980s and has been a mainstay in the Tri-Cities ever since.

General admission is $4 and $3 for seniors. Kids age 12-and-under are admitted free. The tournament continues Saturday at 8 a.m. Semifinals will be noon Saturday, followed by the championship at 5:20 p.m.
