Cool Desert Nights 2012

Cool Desert Nights kicked off the four-day event Thursday with a car cruise that began at TRAC in Pasco and ended with a show and shine on Jadwin Avenue near the Uptown in Richland. The event continues Friday , Saturday and Sunday.

I would like to thank the Sand and Sage Sports Car Club for adding an excellent event to the already outstanding Cool Desert Nights schedule. As one of the many people who make the trip from Western Washington, the new event made this annual draw to the Tri-Cities even more appealing. Like many owners of high-performance show cars, I enjoy putting my car through its paces, but legally.

The autocross event held the Sunday morning after the show provided that outlet. The SSSCC organized a professional event for show attendees. They supplied basic training, helmets and encouragement, all for a very reasonable cost.

New to autocross, I was able to run my car with the foot to the floor during several passes through the course, in an environment that was safe for myself and spectators.

The Tri-Cities is fortunate to have a resource like Tri-City Raceway, which has been an excellent facility for auto enthusiasts to enjoy speed in a safe and legal environment for many years. The Tri-Cities are also fortunate to have an organization like the SSSCC, and I hope its Sunday morning autocross at Tri-City Raceways will become a permanent part of the Cool Desert Nights schedule. I'm spreading the word among car clubs in Western Washington.
