Menace NW places 4th at state softball tournament

— The Menace NW finished fourth overall in the 18U division of the NSA state softball tournament on Sunday at TRAC.

Gabby Meza scattered three hits and struck out five over seven innings, and Kayla De La Paz backed her up with a two-run double, as the Menace NW opened consolation bracket play with a 7-2 win against the Walla Walla Warriors.

But the Menace fell 10-2 to the Washington Hurricanes of Redmond to end its tournament journey with a 3-2 record.

The Capitol Lady Outlaws Black romped to a 15-0 win against the Washington Havoc in the 18U championship.

In other tournament news Sunday:

* Sno Co Express Black defeated the SW Bandits 13-7 in the 16A championship at TRAC in Pasco.

* The Crushers 96 bested Washington Madness 9-5 in the 16B state title contest at Southridge Park.

* The Blaze 97 posted a 9-1 win against the Snohomish Shock 97 in the battle for the 14A state title at Lawrence Scott Park.

* The Bellevue Blast 98 earned a 13-4 win against the Rochester Blast in the 14B state title decider at Columbia Playfields.

* Blaze Intensity emerged as the 12A state champions after a win against the Washington Majestics at Southridge Park.

* The Bellevue Blast Black bested Tri-City Thunder 6-5 in the battle for the 12B state title at Kennewick Civic Center.

The Thunder opened the day in the consolation bracket, but handed an 8-0 defeat to regional rivals Washington Angels Y2K to stay alive. The Thunder maintained that pace with a 6-3 win against Sno Swat and a 9-1 win against Moses Lake Rattlers in the third-place decider.

* The Snow County Express defeated the NW Lady Sharks to take the 10A championship at TRAC in Pasco.

* The Washington Spirit defeated the Sno Shock 12-1 to earn the 10B championship at TRAC in Pasco.
