Firefighters in the Tri-Cities provide a variety of ways to help senior citizens ensure their smoke detectors are functioning

Bryan Hood

I recently was replacing the batteries in my smoke alarm, and one of them did not function right (no alert sound). I thought the other one was OK.

I called the nonemergency number for the Richland Fire Department. The woman who answered the phone notified the fire station nearest to me and within a short time they called me to let me know the approximate time they would come by that morning. My two smoke alarms were old and nonfunctional. They replaced them with new ones and put a third one in the bedroom.

I am so grateful to our firemen for this service to senior citizens in Benton County. To everyone at the fire station on Gage Boulevard and Keene Road, thank you so much.

Lois Olson, Richland
