Jon Marmor, managing editor of Columns, the University of Washington alumni magazine, posed a valid question in his latest column.
"Is there a more famous female athlete in the world right now than Hope Solo?"
Thus, for a variety of reasons, a profile of the Richland High grad is the cover story for the June 2012 issue of the UW publication. My issue arrived today.
An image of Solo training with the Seattle Sounders women's soccer team, taken by photographer Ron Wurzer, fills the cover. Freelancer Derek Belt wrote the story, which also serves as a roundup of UW Olympians six hopefuls for the London Games, and 123 all-time during the school's 150-year history.
So how long can Solo continue as world-class keeper? Last season, Kasey Keller, 41, retired from the Seattle Sounders as arguably the best in Major League Soccer. Solo turns 31 on July 30.
