Former Ams goalie Drew Owsley headed to college

May 21, 2012

Former Tri-City Americans goalie Drew Owsley, who finished his WHL career with the Prince George Cougars last season, if off to college.

Owsley, 21, has committed to attend St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and play for the X-Men.

"I took a trip out there for a few days and I really liked it," said Owsley, a native of Lethbridge, Alberta. "It's a small town and a small school. That's what I was looking for. It's a good hockey town. From what I hear, the team is a pretty big deal in town and a school. Similiar to Tri-City."

The X-men will return starting goalie Joey Perricone (Moose Jaw Warriors), who has one more year of eligibility.

"It will be good to have a year to learn to balance school and hockey," Owsley said. "I'm think they are looking for a young guy to come in and learn for next year. There will be a chance to play right away."
