CBC baseball sweeps into lead with wins over Treasure Valley

By the Tri-City Herald May 3, 2012

ONTARIO, Ore. -- Arty Reyes threw eight innings of four-hit ball, and Jon Rapose and Nico Lytle combined on a shutout in the second game as Columbia Basin College swept a pair from Treasure Valley, 4-1 and 6-0, in an NWAACC East doubleheader Wednesday in Ontario, Ore.

The wins along with Yakima Valley's sweep of Blue Mountain sends the Hawks and Yaks a game up on the Chukars atop the East standings.

CBC (15-7 East) struck for three runs in the seventh to finally break a scoreless tie in the opener thanks to RBI singles from Chris Brunetti, Joey Jansen and Matt Minnich.

It was more than enough for Reyes, who struck out four and walked three. Minnich closed out the ninth for the save.

The seventh inning was good for CBC in the second game as well. The Hawks led 1-0 before Jansen's two-run doubled scored a pair of runs. Trevor Dunlap also had an RBI doubles as CBC scored four in the frame.

Rapose went 5 2/3 innings, allowing only three hits. Lytle was untouched over the final 3 1/3, striking out two.

The Hawks entertain Big Bend for a pair on Saturday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
