Tri-City Herald reporter to make cameo on ESPN's OTL at noon

By the Tri-City HeraldMay 3, 2012

Tri-City Herald sports reporter Craig Craker will make a cameo on ESPN’s Outside the Lines during today’s scheduled showtime at noon Pacific.

The topic of the show is Guerdwich Montimer, a 22-year-old who posed as a 16-year-old high school sophomore in 2009-10 at Permian High School in Odessa, Texas. Montimer, who was going by Jerry Joseph while in Texas, had graduated from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 2007. He played basketball for Dillard and planned to go to a junior college in Illinois, before dropping out and disappearing until showing up in Texas in 2009.

Montimer is a naturalized citizen from Haiti, which helped him maintain the subterfuge because of the lack of records in Haiti after the devastating earthquake in 2010.

Craker, who worked for the Odessa American at the time, broke the story of Montimer being arrested and the depths of his deception.

Montimer is up for parole later this month. ESPN.com senior writer Wright Thompson will have a story published about the situation in the upcoming ESPN The Magazine.
