HORSE RACING: Fly Pole wins feature

Published: April 30, 2012

Fly Pole, with rider Jose Antonio Figueroa aboard, held off the field down the stretch to win the Dorothy Adams “Buttons and Bows” feature Sunday at Sun Downs race track.

It was the 4-year-old’s second consecutive win at 4 furlongs, both of them coming with Figueroa riding.

An estimated crowd of 1,000 fans came out to wager a total handle of $43,630 to continue a good run at the track.

This weekend was arguably the weakest of the three scheduled for the meet.

Next weekend will be the biggest of the three, with fans being able to bet on the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

Also scheduled Saturday is the $25,000 American Quarter Horse Association’s Maiden Challenge Final, and the AQHA Pfizer Starter Allowance.

On Sunday, the biggest race of the meet — the $30,000 Pot O’Gold Futurity final — will be run, as well as the $20,000 AQHA Distaff Challenge final.

Trey Fecta netted a positive of $4.50 for the day, stopping the bleeding until next weekend.

The imaginary bankroll that started at $300 for the meet is now at $170 heading into the final two days.
