RICHLAND -- The family of a Richland girl killed in a car accident outside Richland High School plan to have a memorial for her on Sunday in the school's cafeteria.
Sunday would have been Sierra Murray's 17th birthday. The event starts at 2 p.m. and will include a potluck, cake and music.
Organizers expect to release 50 purple balloons in Sierra's honor.
"I just can't let her birthday go by without doing something," said her father, Terry Murray.
Attendees are encouraged to wear shirts, hoodies or buttons made in Sierra's memory.
Sierra was struck by a car in late October and died a week later.
The incident led her fellow students at Richland High to pursue traffic safety issues with city officials.
People with questions about the event are encouraged to call Terry Murray at 509-987-4627.
