On Friday, the Seattle Mariners unveiled their commercials for the 2012 season.
There is a poll on the team's page, but I couldn't bring myself to vote for a "favorite." If pushed, I guess I'd go with A Seattle Welcome. Unfortunately, none of the five came close to plunking my funny bone as did Larry Bernandez of 2011.
I'm no Mr. Movie, but Eric Wedge is the real star. His acting sent it out of the park, and I still laugh both when he emerges from the dugout and then when utters "Bernandez."
In terms of in-game marketing, that spot may have produced the most tangible success of any recent Mariners commercial, which inspired a special bobblehead night last August.
Among my recent favorites was Franklin Gutierrez shagging drives on the golf course in 2010.
On Amazon.com, you can find two volumes of Seattle Mariners Classic Commercials. Volume 1 features the first 15 years of the campaign.
Who could forget Dr. Lou Piniella?
