Hermiston girls fall 49-39 to Bend at state

EUGENE -- Mekayla Isaak had 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Bend to a 49-39 victory over Hermiston in an OSAA Class 5A girls basketball quarterfinal game Wednesday.

Heidi Walchli and Columbia River Confer-ence Player of the Year Maloree Moss each scored 12 points for Hermiston (21-6), which had won 14 in a row. The Bulldogs will face Wilsonville (19-8) in a consolation game at 9 a.m. today.

Bend (20-5) advances to play No. 1 Springfield (24-3) in a semifinal game Friday at Matthew Knight Arena.

On Wednesday, Mercedes Russell had 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead Springfield to a 59-15 victory against Wilsonville.

The defending champion Millers have won 23 consecutive games.
