You won't need a looking glass to see the different faces of Alice when Disney's Alice in Wonderland opens March 1 at Christ the King Catholic School in Richland.
"We have 98 middle school students involved in the acting, set design, prop making, publicity and stage managing," said director Janice McIntyre.
The lead character of Alice will be played by three different actors, who will portray the wandering Alice in her various stages of form, from large to small -- Quin Hanrahan as normal-sized Alice, Ali Jacobs as small Alice and Adee Mulson as tall Alice.
The roles of the Cheshire Cat and the Caterpillar also will have multiple actors playing the characters. Tate Kautzky, Allison Sijgers and Mariah Boes take turns as the Cheshire Cat, and Mariah Johnson, Brian Sands, Gavin Baker and Andrew Blacketeer share the Caterpillar role.
The rest of the cast includes Shane Hill as the Mad Hatter, Adam Lewis as the March Hare, Laura Sheen as the Queen of Hearts, Bradley Anderson as the King of Hearts, Ryan Smith as the White Rabbit, and Cameron Winslow as the Dodo Bird.
The costumes were as challenging to put together as it was to find time for rehearsals, McIntyre said.
"I borrowed a great deal from the Academy of Children's Theatre and Mid-Columbia Musical Theater," she said. "And I rely heavily on my talented Christ the King parents to sew several of the costumes and accessories we use."
Most of the actors are as involved with after-school sports as they are with drama, so finding time for everyone to meet for rehearsal was a challenge, she added.
"I only have (the kids) after school on Thursdays for an hour and a half," McIntyre said. "But they rehearse (songs) in music class with Sheila Gephart and choreography in P.E. with choreographer Holly Williams."
Curtain time is 6:30 p.m. March 1-3 in the auditorium at Christ the King, 1122 Long Ave., Richland. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.
