Hanford girls face tough road challenge at Shadle Park

BY THE TRI-CITY HERALD February 21, 2012

The Hanford Falcons haven't had much luck against Shadle Park over the last few seasons, losing their last two matchups against the Greater Spokane League squad.

However, Falcons coach Evan Woodward is the third time can be a charm when Hanford (11-12) travels to face the Highlanders (15-7) at 6 p.m. tonight.

"I like that we're still playing," he said. "It's going to come down to how well we defend as a team and how well we execute on offense."

Hanford's best bet is Collette Gall, who has averaged 15.6 points in three district playoff games, but they have some solid scoring punch with Lexi Rutherford and Savanna Steele.

Shadle Park has a strong backcourt tandem in Aleisha Hathaway and Kaycee Hert, who have led the Highlanders to three consecutive victories.

"Aleshia is pretty darn good," Woodward said. "They're pretty deep. They've got a number of kids who can step up."

Last 10: H 7-3. SP 9-1.

Key players: H -- G Collette Gall (14.1), PG Savanna Steele, F Lexi Rutherford. SP -- G Aleisha Hathaway (12.7), G Kaycee Hert (9.5).
