Lee Murdock performs a bounty of his ballads and other sea-worthy songs starting at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church, 2819 W. Sylvester St., Pasco.

Murdock's songs are rooted in the work song tradition that delve into the rugged days of lumberjacks and wooden sailing schooners, according to the Three Rivers Folklife Society, which is sponsoring the event.

Murdock brings folk music into the modern era, and his repertoire combines historical research as well as contemporary insights that provide a musical education about the people who live, work, learn and play along the shores of the Great Lakes.

Murdock began his singing career in the Chicago area in the mid-1970s. His music also includes blues and popular music as well as folk and maritime tunes.

Admission to the Tri-City concert is $11 for general admission and $9 for students and seniors. Cost is $1 more at the door. Tickets are available at Tri-City Bookworm stores and the Octopus' Garden in Richland.
