Warden, Othello girls score big at regional

MATTAWA -- Warden and Othello were the big winners at the Eastern Washington girls regional wrestling tournament Saturday at Wahluke High in Mattawa.

Warden advanced eight wrestlers to state and had four champions; Othello won three individual titles and has six moving on to Mat Classic XXIV on Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.

The top three at each weight qualified for state. Team scores were not available, and tournament results were not posted until Saturday.

The Cougars got titles from Deianeira Caudle at 100 pounds, Brenda Deleon at 118, Aneissa Gonzales at 145 and Andrea Contreras at 265.

Othello's gold came from Tori Zambrano at 106, Tatum Sparks at 124 and Allesha Reyes at 137.

Connell's Felisha Orozco won the 170 title, and Mabton's Mary Ellen Gutierrez carried 112.

Kiona-Benton will send one wrestler to state: Britnee Cook placed third at 100. Pasco just missed getting a wrestler through, with Katelynn Jensen finishing fourth at 130.
