Since when has it been socially acceptable for anyone, particularly an establishment as large as the Susan G. Komen Foundation, to succumb to peer pressure? Within three days of announcing its plan to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, the administration of the Susan G. Komen Foundation withdrew its claim with apologies.
CEO Nancy C. Brinker stated, "We do not want our mission marred or affected by politics." Well, Nancy, I think it's a little late. You yielded to the peer pressure from pro-choice activists on Facebook and Twitter faster than a preteen can text message. Stop pretending to care about women's health: You have obviously put your political appearance before our well being. Planned Parenthood facilities don't even have the technology to do mammograms, so the money you have poured into them for breast cancer screening is in vain. The young women of my generation (Gen. Y) deserve better than this.
