SPOKANE VALLEY -- Carly Garland of Richland and Kiya Bjorge of Southridge qualified for the state all-around championships with quality finishes in the gymnastic regionals Saturday at Central Valley High in Spokane.

Garland placed fourth overall in the 4A with a score of 35.2. Mead earned the team title their top two all-around finishers -- Victoria Moyer (2nd, 36.350) and Cadie Pratt (3rd, 36.125) -- did not figure into the allocation of the two available berths. Nicole Moss of Heritage won the all-around with a 36.375.

Bjorge tied with Shadle Park's Alana Norman for the 3A all-around title, as each posted a 37.35 score. Southridge seniors Nicole Claver, Courtney Giaramita, Maeloni Ogle and Lindsey Potts put in solid performances as the Suns placed fifth in the team race with an aggregate 148.650 score.

"This meet is an emotional one," Suns coach Heidi Fryer said. "The Southridge team battled through some serious injuries but really came together as a team."

Kamiakin finished second, losing its regional crown to University by a sliver, 167.875 to 167.750. But the Braves' Michelle Fletcher, Danielle Brandon, Brittany Lofton and Sarah Rowell still qualified for state in individual events.

Fletcher didn't qualify for state in the all-around (fourth at 36.625) despite qualifying individually in all four events: vault (tied 1st, 9.375), bars (5th, 8.75), beam (5th, 9.075) and floor (2nd, 9.425).

Brandon finished fifth in the all-around (35.85) and qualified in vault (3rd, 9.225), bars (6th, 8.675) and beam (6th, 9.05); Lofton took 9th in the all-around (33.475) and qualified in bars (9th, 7.95), beam (11th, 8.45) and floor (7th, 9.125); and Rowell qualified in beam (8th, 8.9) and floor (10th, 9.05).

"Kamiakin performed awesome," coach Sarah Garrett said. "We just came up short -- couple of falls, nervous things."

Hanford's Kayla Lasater qualified for state in the bars (4th, 8.975), beam (10th, 8.525) and floor (11th, 9.025).

"Kayla did outstanding," Hanford/Richland coach Brett Garland said of the Falcons freshman. "She did awesome for herself and she put it together when she needed to."

The 4A and 3A-2A-1A state championships will be held Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome.

Notes: Southridge gymnast Nicole Claver has been selected to compete in the National High School Senior Showcase in May in Florida.
