KENNEWICK — A 24-year-old Kennewick man who fell asleep during his Super Bowl party is charged with stabbing a guest because he was mad about being woken up because he was snoring too loudly.

Alexander William Edwards allegedly used a kitchen knife to attack the partygoer who intervened in a fight between the host and his girlfriend.

Edwards pleaded innocent in Benton County Superior Court to second-degree assault. His trial is set April 2.

According to police and court documents, Edwards had invited friends to his East Ninth Place home last Sunday to watch the football game.

At some point, Edwards became intoxicated and fell asleep, court documents stated.

Edwards' girlfriend and another woman later woke him for snoring loudly, and that's when he allegedly became upset and pushed his girlfriend.

Steven Theofelis then stepped in and was punched by Edwards, court documents said. Other people also intervened and helped to calm Edwards.

Theofelis decided to leave but, before he could get out of the house, Edwards grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the stomach, documents said.

Theofelis reportedly tried to wrestle the knife away from Edwards, then left with others to call an ambulance. He was treated at Kennewick General Hospital.

When police tried to contact Edwards at his home just after midnight Monday, he closed and locked the door on them, court documents said.

Officers broke down the door to arrest Edwards. He struggled with police and eventually had to have his legs restrained after he repeatedly tried to kick out a patrol car's windows, documents said.

Edwards is in jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Prosser man pleads innocent to firing gun in bar during fight

PROSSER — A Prosser man faces trial April 9 for allegedly firing a gun at a fellow bar patron during a late-night fight.

Ben James Wilsey, 63, pleaded innocent to first-degree assault and second-degree assault with a firearm.

Prosser police got a call at 1:52 a.m. Feb. 4 for shots fired near Sixth Street and Meade Avenue on a downtown street.

Wilsey had been drinking at Keno's bar when he reportedly got into an altercation with customer, Scott Ferguson, around closing time, according to police and court documents.

The men were outside the tavern when Wilsey allegedly pulled a pistol from his jacket and fired it at Ferguson, barely missing the man's head.

Wilsey then yelled, "You want some more?" documents said.

The bullet went through a window into the dining room of the adjacent Keno's restaurant.

While officers were responding, Wilsey went to the Prosser Police Department and handed over a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol, police said.
