In the dispute between Kennewick General Hospital and Group Health Cooperative, what about us?
There are about 35,000 people in the Tri-City area who are monopolized into having to be on Group Health through their employment because GHC is one of the only games in town.
According to Bob Burden, the Group Health administrator for Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, Group Health had been told it was "not that big, not that important" to KGH.
Fault lies with both sides, Group Health was not willing to pay the hospital for what it stated were "prohibited Increases."
Henry J. Kaiser swindled us all when he convinced Richard Nixon that managed care was the solution. His consortium is now the largest so-called health care provider in the nation.
KGH and Group Health need to come to the table and realize what a profound and devastating impact they have had on this community.
KGH, you are not being responsible to the community.
Group Health, you are responsible to no one; you're just an ugly cast off from Henry J. Kaiser.
It is not always about the money. Sometimes it is about what is right and righteous.
Don Taylor, Kennewick
