Great gear: Utopia Thermal Pant great for winter runs

There is no messing around with quality when it comes to running gear. That especially is true in the winter, a season that requires clothing to perform the double duty of keeping you warm while allowing some breathing room.

Brooks' Utopia Thermal Pant fits the bill. Made from 85 percent polyester and 15 percent spandex, the knitted thermal fabric is thick enough for full protection while the semi-fitted style helps it feel like a second skin. It is rated to keep you warm in temperatures 40 degrees and below. Even better, it provides a feature most running tights don't offer: 9-inch zippers on both ankles, so you can adjust the tightness to fit your running style. The pant has a 30-inch inseam, a special knee design for running comfort and a convenient zippered back pocket for storing important items. It also has reflective taping around both legs to increase visibility.

The Utopia Thermal Pant is available in men's and women's styles. Although the design is similar for both, the men's style does not fit as snugly as the women's. This may be a positive or negative depending on your preference. Color is black.

Both styles are available in sizes XS to XL and cost $90. They are available at www.brooksrunning.com.
