PROSSER -- A 63-year-old man fired a pistol at a fellow patron following an altercation at a Prosser tavern early Saturday morning, according to a police report.
Ben Wilsey was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault. Law enforcement had not provided Wilsey's city of residence.
While Prosser police officers were responding to reports of a shot fired near Sixth Street and Meade Avenue in downtown Prosser at 1:52 a.m., Wilsey went to the police department, according to a news release.
Officers said they took possession of a .380 semi-automatic pistol that Wilsey allegedly told them he fired.
Several witnesses said Wilsey was drinking at a tavern and had an argument with one of the other patrons on the street outside of the bar at closing time. Wilsey then allegedly drew and fired the pistol at the patron, but the bullet hit another business, according to witnesses.
Wilsey is being held on a 72-hour investigative hold at the Benton County jail, waiting for arraignment.
