Fast focus: Public decision

I contacted the city officials and asked if our street would be plowed. They said my street will not be plowed, sanded or salted because there is no money in the budget for it.

We pay our taxes like everyone else and we are discriminated against because some residents have plowing, sanding and salt.

What can be done to treat all the residents of the city alike?

Why is this issue not addressed at budget time and at public meetings?

Why can't the city hire independent contractors to plow, sand and salt in emergencies?

Why does the city feel it can leave these streets unsafe for travel that could result in serious accidents and injuries?

Why are priorities, like the safety of its residents, being ignored and funds expended on non-safety issues?

I lived in Vermont for years and even with a 36-inch snowfall I never had to request the highway department to plow, sand or salt. I never missed a day of work because of highway conditions even though I lived 25 miles from my job. If I could get my driveway cleared for travel I could go anywhere, but not so here in the city of Kennewick.
