Saturday's Mid-Columbia girls roundup: Prosser defeats Othello 58-10

PROSSER -- Helen Petersen had 15 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, five steals and three blocks to lead the Prosser girls basketball team to a 58-10 victory Saturday against visiting Othello in CWAC action.

The victory clinches a district tournament spot for Prosser with two regular season games remaining.

Kiona-Benton 40, River View 37: Kiona-Benton guaranteed itself at least a share of the SCAC 1A East title thanks in part to Taylor Brown's double double of 10 points and 13 rebounds as the Bears bested host River View on Saturday.

Cierra Torp had 13 points for Kiona-Benton who will play Columbia-Burbank on Monday. A Bears win against the Coyotes will guarantee sole ownership of the league title, a loss will result in splitting championship honors with Connell.

Mabton 44, Wahluke 31: The Vikings clinched at least a tie for fourth place in the SCAC East with a road victory over Wahluke.

Jazzee Sustaita scored 15 points and Alyssa Nash had seven to lead Mabton, which can finish no worse than tied with Columbia-Burbank for the final spot to the district tournament. The Coyotes close their regular season Monday at Kiona-Benton.

Tanya Mendez scored 11 points to lead the Warriors, whose season came to an end.

Indians senior Christopher Josie led all scorers with 23 points, but the Nighthawks had four players in double figures, led by Kim Groom's 20 points.
